How to choose audio recording microphone for smartphones?

There are several factors to take into account. The most significant ones are listed below.

Size: Smartphone microphones are designed in different shapes and sizes; Some are more suitable for home use, while others can be placed in a backpack or even carried in your pocket for on-the-go recording.

Connector: They can come with different connectors, including TRS, TRRS, USB-C, Lighting and even XLR. Invest in the one that fits the audio input port of your smartphone. For example, if you have an iPhone above 7, a microphone for voice recording on iPhone with Lightning plug is a good choice. It can be directly plugged into the charging port and recognized as the input device, which saves your time of connecting and setting up.

Type: Certain microphones are better suited for certain situations. A lavalier microphone, for example, is designed for content creators to capture audio during video shoots. This makes it an excellent choice for vloggers. A condenser microphone, on the other hand, is excellent for capturing vocals, making it a better choice for musicians.

Price: Decide how much will you spend on the product and make a purchase within your price range.

How to use microphone for smartphone recording to get good audio?

SYNCO G1T/L has a clip-on transmitter and a receiver that can be plugged into the jack on smartphone.

Here are two steps to follow:

Connect the mic properly

If you have wireless microphone for smartphone video recording

  • Install a compatible application and follow the setup instructions as needed.
  • Connect the receiver to your smartphone. If its plug matches the audio input jack of your mobile phone, you can connect it to the phone simply by plug the receiver into the jack. For example, if you have a SYNCO P1L, whose receiver features a Lighting plug, you can enjoy the plug-and-play recording. If it doesn’t match, an adapter is required. And remember to buy a MFI certified adapter for your iPhone.
  • Go to Settings in the partner app. Choose "Video Settings."
  • Tap on "Audio Source," then select "External Mic" or the name of the lapel you want to connect to.
  • Following that, you may begin your audio or video recording.

If you have shotgun mic

  • Install an audio recording app compatible with your smartphone.
  • Connect the shotgun microphone's jack to your mobile device. To ensure appropriate fit, first ensure that the jack is TRRS. If your Android device has a USB-C port, use a microphone for Android phone recording with TRRS to USB-C adapter. If you're using an iPhone 7 or later, use TRRS to Lightning adapter. Additionally, make sure you have a TRRS to TRS adaptor to suit all of your smartphone's jacks.
  • Start recording by opening the app and following the instructions.

Follow tips below when using microphone for smartphone video recording

  • You don't want to receive a phone call while recording, therefore enable airplane mode on your phone before pressing the record button.
  • Look for a pleasant, quiet room. A coffee shop or a noisy restaurant isn't ideal locations for recording, but if you have a smartphone recording microphone that can filter out unwanted sounds, you can get a nice recording even in busy surroundings.
  • Mind the wind. A little breeze blowing straight against a sensitive microphone can drown out the sound of someone speaking. If you must be outside, choose a place out of the wind.
  • Instead of speaking loudly, get closer to the source of the sound. This results in a more personal and authentic sound.
